IMovie '08 and iMovie '09 should work fine. You don't need to do anything with the.moi files. The.mod files are what you want.
Then you have to enter your e-mail address, so that you can receive a notification when the process has been completed. You will receive in your mail the files already converted to the PDF format. All you should have to do with iMovie '08 or iMovie '09 is connect via USB, launch iMovie, and then the capture dialog will open up. You will see thumbnails that represent each clip of video on your cam.
Simply select the scenes you need and you can capture them. Some people make the mistake of connecting via USB and then trying to copy all the files from the JVC to the Mac first, before launching iMovie.
Don't do that. Use the capture process in iMovie and you will be fine. If you have earlier versions of iMovie, there are conversion utilities that could be used, but it is much more of a hassle and the video quality is lower. Upgrading to iMovie '08 or iMovie '09 is highly recommended. I'm another new Everio user having trouble and hoping someone can help. Everio GZ-HD300SAA, linked by USB through powered hub to iMac running 10.6.2 and iMovie 09. Cannot get the camera recognized by iMovie.
My sequence has been: 1. Connect USB cable to hub 2. Open camera to power up - USB menu appears with 'Playback on PC' selected 3. Open iMovie 09.
No visibilty for camera or contents. Click the camera icon in middle left of iMovie. Only the built-in iSight camera is available. Switch to Finder: at this stage the camera is not visible. On the camera screen select 'Upload' option (also tried Export to Library and Backup with same result) and 'Set'.
Camera now appears in Finder devices list, and I can browse the file system. (Still not available in iMovie 09.) Without boring you with every folder and file extension, I cannot find anything anywhere in that tree that is of type.MOD or.TOD, or anything that Finder recognizes as a video format. To exit, I eject the camera device in Finder, then power down the camera (there appears to be no other way to exit the upload screen). Then disconnect the USB cable. Power up the camera again, in Playback mode, my four trial shoots are still visible in the camera and are shot in XP quality. Sure hope that someone can point me in the right direction, as my wife bought me this camera to replace an aging Sony because I've been asked to shoot her sister's wedding in 10 days' time. I expected this to Just Work in the Apple tradition, and now have rising anxiety.

I didn't get it to work the first time through, but adding the mains power to the camera and switching to a built-in USB port suddenly brought it all to life (or iLife! My first test import has worked a treat, and I am now loading the 30 minute Clip That Matters out of my tests. And I'm learning to +allow more time+ for the wedding video edit! I'll do more detailed testing when I don't have to rush off to work; but off the bat I'm suspicious that the USB hub was getting in the way. Really appreciate your help. Thanks again.
Hello,.tod files are a completely different story. The GZ-HD7 is part of a generation of JVC camcorders that was designed to work best with Apple using Firewire (iLink), not USB. Please understand that Firewire (iLink) only works when playing back videos that have been recorded by the camcorder in a special recording mode called 1440CBR. Here is some additional detail on making this work: _*Connection via Firewire:*_ Preparation: • Your camcorder has three recording quality modes: FHD, SP & 1440CBR. For this method, all video you would like to use in iMovie must be recorded on your camcorder in the 1440CBR mode. This is very important. • When you are done recording, create a playlist with the recorded video you would like to edit.
